Most serious implementations of BLAS are not implemented in Fortran 
anymore.  With respect to this conversation it might be worth noting 
that BLAS is a standard with many different implementations.  Fortran 
compilers still exist because there are very large, very important codes 
with huge budgets that are implemented in Fortran.
